Installation Requirements

This chapter covers:

System Specifications

Table 2-1 shows system requirements for Adaptive Server.

Table 2-1: System requirements for Adaptive Server

Component

Requirement

Processor

32-bit

Operating system

Adaptive Server requires Windows NT version 4.0 with Service Pack 3 or later.

The installation program and some Sybase tools can be run at an earlier version.

Connectivity

Your system must have network hardware and network protocol software as well as the Sybase Open Client software to allow you to connect to an Adaptive Server elsewhere on a network. You can install Open Client with Adaptive Server.

TCP/IP protocol stack

Your system must have TCP/IP networking software installed to use a browser or other Web client with the PowerDynamo software.

Java Runtime Environment for Sybase Central Plug-in for Adaptive Server

To use the plug-in's monitoring features, you need the Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 1.1.5 (certified to 1.1.6 for Adaptive Server) or the Java Development Kit 1.1.5, which includes the JRE, but requires additional disk space. The JRE is shipped with the Adaptive Server plug-in.
