Installing Adaptive Server Enterprise on Windows NT |
|
| Chapter 2: Installation Requirements |
This chapter covers:
Table 2-1 shows system requirements for Adaptive Server.
Component | Requirement |
Processor | 32-bit |
Operating system | Adaptive Server requires Windows NT version 4.0 with Service Pack 3 or later. The installation program and some Sybase tools can be run at an earlier version. |
Connectivity | Your system must have network hardware and network protocol software as well as the Sybase Open Client software to allow you to connect to an Adaptive Server elsewhere on a network. You can install Open Client with Adaptive Server. |
TCP/IP protocol stack | Your system must have TCP/IP networking software installed to use a browser or other Web client with the PowerDynamo software. |
Java Runtime Environment for Sybase Central Plug-in for Adaptive Server | To use the plug-in's monitoring features, you need the Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 1.1.5 (certified to 1.1.6 for Adaptive Server) or the Java Development Kit 1.1.5, which includes the JRE, but requires additional disk space. The JRE is shipped with the Adaptive Server plug-in. |
Table 2-2 shows RAM requirements for Sybase products. For Powersoft requirements, see the Powersoft documentation.
Product | RAM Required |
|---|---|
Adaptive Server | 32MB |
Open Client/C | 16MB |
OmniConnect | 32MB |
Monitor Client Library | 16MB |
Monitor Server | 32MB |
Monitor Historical Server | 32MB |
SQL Advantage | 8MB |
Adaptive Server plug-in for Sybase Central | 12MB |
Table 2-3 shows installation requirements for Sybase products.
Product | Operating System | Disk Space | Comments |
|---|---|---|---|
Adaptive Server | Windows NT 4.0 and Service Pack 3 or later | 70MB minimum | Requires Open Client/C 11.1.1. plus EBF #8021. master.dat default size is 30MB. The minimum required size is 25MB. sybprocs.dat default size is 60MB with a minimum of 45MB. Specify a higher setting if you plan to add your own stored procedures. |
Monitor Server | Windows NT 4.0 | 0.14MB | Requires Open Client/C 11.1.1. plus EBF #8021. Sybase tools such as dsedit are recommended for configuration purposes. Automatically installed with Adaptive Server. To enable monitoring by non-sa_role users, you must install two-phase commit in syconfig. |
Monitor Historical Server | Windows NT 4.0 Power Dynamo | 0.9MB | Requires Open Client/C 11.1.1 plus EBF #8021. Sybase tools such as dsedit are recommended. For best performance, install Monitor Historical Server on a separate computer from Adaptive Server. |
Monitor Client Library | Windows NT 4.0 | 3.1MB | Requires Open Client/C 11.1.1 plus EBF #8021. For best performance, install Monitor Client Library on a computer that is not running Adaptive Server. |
Sybase Central Plug-in for Adaptive Server | Windows NT 4.0 Windows 95 | 12MB | Requires Open Client/C 11.1.1 plus EBF #8021. Installation on one computer lets you manage all Adaptive Server installations on the network. Installation on the same system as Adaptive Server lets you stop, start, and pause Adaptive Server from Sybase Central. Requires the Java Runtime Environment 1.1.5 or later or the Java Development Kit 1.1.5 or later. |
SQL Advantage | Windows NT 4.0 Windows 95 | 3.2MB | Requires Open Client/C version 11.1.1 and EBF #7729 or later. |
Monitor Server for SQL Server 11.0.x | Windows NT 3.51 or later | 0.1MB | Requires Open Client 10.0.4. Enables you to use the new functionality in the Adaptive Server plug-in monitoring and the new Monitor Client Library 11.5. (Be sure to install in your existing SQL Server 11.0.x directory.) Note: Do not install Open Client/C 11.1.1 with this product. |
Language Modules | Windows NT 4.0 | 2-6.5MB per language | English, German, French, Spanish, Chinese (simplified), Japanese, Korean, Portuguese
|
InfoMaker | Windows NT 4.0 Windows 95 | 10MB minimum | Requires additional database space for subscriptions, publications, and transactions. |
