Installing Adaptive Server Enterprise on Siemens

About This Book

This guide, Installing Adaptive Server Enterprise on Siemens Reliant UNIX, provides:

An overview of the Sybase(R) Adaptive Server(TM) Enterprise installation infrastructure
Instructions for installing and upgrading Adaptive Server, and installing Backup Server, Monitor Server, XP Server, and client products, including the Adaptive Server plug-in for Sybase Central(TM)
Instructions for installing optional Adaptive Server functionality, such as auditing, sample databases, and two-phase commit transactions, and localization information.

Audience

This guide is written for Sybase System Administrators and other qualified installers who are familiar with their system's environment, networks, disk resources, and media devices.

How To Use This Book

This book contains the following chapters:

Chapter 1, "Overview," provides product definitions and an overview of the installation process and the Adaptive Server installation infrastructure.
Chapter 2, "Installation Requirements," provides descriptions and system-related information such as required RAM and disk space for all Adaptive Server server and client products for this release.
Chapter 3, "Unloading Server Products from Distribution Media," describes how to unload Adaptive Server products from the distribution media to your system.
Chapter 4, "Installing Sybase Servers," describes three ways to install Adaptive Server: Quick Start installation, custom installation, and resource file installation. This chapter also provides instructions for changing the language used for server messages.
Chapter 5, "Installing Sybase PC-Client Products," describes how to install Adaptive Server client products like the Adaptive Server plug-in to Sybase Central and SQL Advantage(R).
Chapter 6, "Upgrading Sybase Servers," describes how to upgrade an existing Adaptive Server to the current release.
Chapter 7, "Adding Optional Functionality to Adaptive Server," describes how to install additional (optional) Adaptive Server functionality such as auditing, sample databases that can be used for learning Transact-SQL(R), and two-phase commit.
Chapter 8, "Starting and Stopping Servers," describes the different methods of starting and stopping Adaptive Server, Backup Server(TM), and other servers.
Chapter 9, "Troubleshooting," provides installation error messages and possible solutions to installation problems.
Appendix A, "Preparing to Upgrade Servers with Replicated Databases," provides instructions for preparing to upgrade a pre-11.0 Adaptive Server that has replicated databases.
Appendix B, "Installing and Using the Performance Archive Database," describes the installation and use of PAD, a utility that collects server performance data.
