Installation Guidelines and Quick Start Steps

This chapter provides information about the options available for installation and configuration based on your environment. It also includes an Installation Worksheet and guidelines, Quick Start Steps for experienced users, and a flowchart of the Quick Start Steps.

This chapter includes the following topics:

Installation Guidelines

The following table provides a start-up point, based on your current environment.

Table 3-1: Guidelines for installing ClearConnect

Current Environment

Then Do This

If you are a first-time user

  1. Complete the Installation Worksheet on . Consult your DB2 and network administrators for this information.

  2. Consult your DB2 database administrator (DBA) to set up the server. See Chapter 4, "Setting Up the DB2 Server."

  3. Review Table 5-1 to determine what network parameters are needed.

  4. Go to Chapter 5, "Configuring the Server Network," to perform all the network-related configuration.

  5. Install and configure the client as described in Chapter 6, "Installing and Configuring ClearConnect on the Client."

If you installed Distributed Data Facility (DDF)

  1. Complete the Installation Worksheet on . Consult your DB2 and Network administrators for this information. Be sure to have the DB2 system LOCATION NAME from the TSO DSNTIPR panel in MVS.

  2. Set up any LU Name or user IDs/passwords in the DB2 Communications Database (CDB) for new ClearConnect clients. See Chapter 4, "Setting Up the DB2 Server."

  3. Issue the necessary GRANT BIND and GRANT CREATE commands to allow creation of ClearConnect packages.

  4. Install and configure the client as described in Chapter 6, "Installing and Configuring ClearConnect on the Client."

If you have not installed DDF

  1. Have your DB2 DBA perform all of the steps described in Chapter 4, "Setting Up the DB2 Server."

  2. Go to Chapter 5, "Configuring the Server Network," to perform all the network-related configuration.

  3. Install and configure the client as described in Chapter 6, "Installing and Configuring ClearConnect on the Client."

Installation Worksheet

Note: Schedule time immediately with your DB2 DBA and network administrator to complete this Installation Worksheet.

Use the following worksheet to gather the information you need to enter on dialog boxes that set up the server and the network, and install ClearConnect on your client workstation.

Table 3-2: Installation Worksheet for ClearConnect

Parameter Name

Description

Where To Find It

DB2 LOCATION NAME:

_______________

Unique DRDA name for this DB2 database system, also called RDB NAME.

  • For DB2/MVS, see DSNTIPR, a TSO panel.
  • For AS/400, the *LOCAL RDBNAME configured for the system. From a 5250 session, use the DSPRDBDIRE command to get this information.

DB2 NETWORK LU NAME:

_______________

Name that VTAM and remote workstations use to connect to this DB2 system over an SNA network.

  • For DB2/MVS, see DSNTIPR, a TSO panel.
  • For DB2/400 and DB2/Common Server, the Remote LU Name for these machines in the SNA configuration.

MVS PROC NAME:

_______________

Name of the JCL procedure used to start the DB2 stored procedure address space. You can use the IBM default.

DSNTIPE, a TSO panel in MVS.

Data Source Name:

___________________

Name of the client data source configuration that defines a database and its communications protocol.

Create this name.

Database Server Name:

________________

Name of the DRDA database used.

  • For DB2/MVS, the LOCATION_NAME that the DB2 DBA assigned to it in the TSO DSNTIPR panel.
  • For AS/400, the *LOCAL RDBNAME configured for the system. From a 5250 session, use the DSPRDBDIRE command to get this information.
  • For InfoHub/MVS, the CATALOG SCHEMA value created for the target database.

Remote Connection Name:

_______________

(SNA) Name of the connection that must be used to reach the database server.

  • For SNA with DB2/MVS, the DB2 Network LUNAME from the DSNTIPR panel.
  • For DB2/400 and DB2/Common Server, the Remote LU Name for these machines in the SNA configuration.
  • For TCP/IP, the remote system's TCP/IP host name, on which the DBMS server resides.

Local LU:

_______________

(SNA) Name of the connection ClearConnect uses to initiate the local end of the SNA connection to the database server.

Windows NT SNA Server Admin Connections screen.

Mode Name:

_______________

(SNA) Mode name that helps establish the SNA connection to the remote system.

Windows NT SNA Server Admin Modes screen.

Remote Host Name:

_______________

(TCP/IP) Host Name assigned to that host system.

MVS TCP/IP Profiles data set.

Host Port #:

_______________

(TCP/IP) Port the ODBC client uses to initiate connection requests to the server.

Normally set to 446, unless the DRDA TCP/IP server is set to use a different value. Find this value in the DB2 TCP/IP configuration panel.

Collection ID:

Collection name used when creating and accessing packages on the database server. The default name supplied by ClearConnect is GRANVCOL.

You can override this with a different name for your installation. If you do, be sure all ClearConnect clients are set up to use the new name.

Trace File Name:

_______________

File name and location into which trace records are written.

Create this name.

ClearConnect provides a default file called clearcon.trc.

Accounting Data To Server:

_______________

Information entered here is sent to DB2/MVS, which then records the information in its SMF information.

Contact your DB2 DBA.

Accounting File Name:

_______________

Name of the file into which DRDA client accounting records are written.

Local file on the ClearConnect client.

Quick Start Steps

This subsection is designed for experienced system administrators who want to get the ClearConnect product installed and operating as fast as possible. To ensure a successful installation, be sure you completed the Installation Worksheet beginning on .

To install ClearConnect, perform the following steps:

Note: Only the DB2 DBA has authority to perform the tasks in step #1.
The network administrator at your site has authority for steps #2 and #3.
  1. Configure DB2 and the Distributed Data Facility (DDF) to allow connections from the DRDA clients/requesters by using:

  2. If you are using VTAM, configure VTAM for the following:

  3. Configure the SNA or TCP/IP communication network parameters on the workstation on which ClearConnect will run.

  4. Install ClearConnect on the client workstation hard disk by using the setup program supplied on the media.

  5. Invoke the ClearConnect configuration dialog boxes using the ODBC Administrator icon on Windows machines.

  6. Configure ClearConnect using the configuration dialog boxes, providing the names of necessary networks and the target databases to use. (Some dialog boxes are optional, such as Tracing, Accounting, and DRDA Package setups.)

  7. Save the configuration settings on the Sybase ClearConnect Data Source Setup dialog box.

  8. Issue the test connection command from the Sybase Create Packages on Remote Database dialog box to verify that you can connect to and login to the DB2 database.

  9. For the initial ClearConnect installation to the DB2 database, issue the create packages (bind) command from the Sybase Create Packages on Remote Database dialog box to create the necessary DRDA packages on the DB2 database. This allows ClearConnect to communicate with DB2.
