About this chapter

This chapter describes the products that are related to the Mainframe Connect IPS, but are sold separately.

InfoHub

InfoHub allows users to dynamically read, write, and update non-relational mainframe data, such as VSAM, IMS, CA-IDMS, CA-DATACOM, and ADABAS using SQL instead of having to write mainframe-specific data-access code. InfoHub users can access this non-relational data using any of the many popular desktop applications, such as PowerBuilder, Business Objects, Brio, and so on.

Decision-makers can now have access to relational as well as non-relational data through SQL and use desktop applications to access all key data in their organizations for time-critical decisions. Used along with The CIS functionality in ASE (formerly contained in a separate product called OmniConnect) and DirectConnect for MVS Transaction Router Service, users can get transparent access to virtually all the data in the enterprise:

Used as a component with the Mainframe Connect IPG, InfoHub lets end users quickly and easily access and update non-relational data using SQL as opposed to programmatic access to non-relational data through Remote Stored Procedures (RSPs).

To take advantage of InfoHub's capabilities, desktop applications initiate SQL requests through the Sybase DirectConnect for MVS Transaction Router Service (TRS). TRS uses APPC or TCP/IP protocols to pass the data or requests to a Sybase host component running in CICS, which in turn sends the request to InfoHub. InfoHub works with Sybase host components for CICS to translate the client's SQL statements into a format that the non-relational database can understand. InfoHub also masks the differences between relational and non-relational data tables so that client applications can retrieve and update or even add records to a non-relational system. InfoHub then works with TRS to translate the results of queries back into a format that the client application can understand.

Replication Agent for DB2

Replication Agent for DB2 is a component of a replication system that moves primary database transactions from DB2 through Replication Server to replicate databases.

With Replication Agent, the primary database is DB2, which runs as a subsystem in MVS. The database logs are DB2 logs.

In a Sybase replication system, the replication module consists of two components: a log extract program, and Log Transfer Manager for MVS (LTM for MVS).

Replication Toolkit for MVS

Replication Agent provides a log extract (which you create using the documentation provided with Replication Toolkit for MVS), called Replication Extract.

LTM for MVS receives the data marked for replication from Replication Extract and transfers this data to Replication Server using the TCP/IP communications protocol.

Replication Server then applies the changes to the replicate databases.
